The Amulet and the Greatsword, Part 5
Lydia didn't make it to the Dragonborn's wedding, but others did. Aerin sat on Mjoll's side of the temple and smiled sweetly throughout the ceremony. On Almarie's side were the Valerians, a sister and brother who ran a store in Riverwood. A bard named Sven and an archer named Faendal were in attendance, too, but Almarie wasn't sure if they were there for her, or if they were Carmilla Valerian's dates.
After the ceremony, Mjoll approached her new wife to talk about where they'd live. "You could live with me," Mjoll suggested. Almarie was so charmed by the warm, cheerful, open way Mjoll had put forth the offer that she replied "Living with you would be perfect," before finding out where Mjoll actually lived.
As it turned out, Mjoll hadn't left Aerin's home since he'd rescued her from the Dwemer centurion. "I've never been a sellsword," Mjoll explained. "Never traded my skills for pay. I've always adventured on my own terms."
"I admire your principle," Almarie said as she looked around th

The Amulet and the Greatsword, Part 4
Almarie had slain the Dwemer Centurion and retrieved Mjoll's enchanted glass greatsword, Grimsever. She and Lydia, her faithful housecarl, were approaching the gates of Riften.
"Here goes nothing," she said as she double-checked her inventory for the Amulet of Mara. "Lydia," she began, "you have proved yourself worthy and honorable on the battlefield time and time again. I only had to cast the Load Last Save spell twice in that dungeon."
"What last what?" said Lydia.
"What I'm trying to say is, Lady Mjoll was once an adventuress like me, and I have a feeling that when she gets her sword back, she'll want to return to that life."
"I think I understand, My Thane," Lydia said, echoing Almarie's gravity and feels. "I can head back to Breezehome right now if you want."
"I'm so glad you understand," said Almarie. "But not just yet."
Damn it, Lydia thought. So close.
"I don't know yet whether Mjoll will agree to either of my proposals, to marry or to go adventuring together."

The Amulet and the Greatsword, Part 3
"Well," said Almarie, "that was a huge freaking' waste of my time."
Lydia had finally managed to drag the Dragonborn to Riften. They'd gone straight to the Bee and Barb, the tavern where Iona said Aerin and Mjoll were likely to be at this time of day. First, Almarie was waylaid by a stablehand outside the tavern door. Of course she had to ask the fretful man what was wrong, which led to a promise to settle the man's debt with a member of the Thieves' Guild. This led to a confrontation with the Thieves' Guild inside the tavern. No sooner did Almarie turn her back on Brynjolf and Sapphire than a man asked her to see about a horse. Almarie was so fully distracted by the man's tale of injustice - and the possibility of obtaining a horse herself - that she had to investigate.
Sneaking in and out of Black-Briar lodge had been easy enough. The hard part was keeping the damn horse alive long enough to deliver him to the man he'd been sold to. Between bandits, vampires, wizrds, and hidden bumps

The Amulet and the Greatsword, Part 2
"It's been awhile since we were in Riften," Lydia commented one day with seeming randomness.
"We don't have any good reason to go there," said Almarie. "I'm not interested in joining the Thieves' Guild. Too much hassle for too little profit."
"Apparently Riften has a protector now," said Lydia. "An adventurer, like you, who decided to stay in one place and help out one town."
"Why would they do that?" said Almarie. "And of all places, why Riften?"
"My cousin Iona thinks it's to torment her personally," said Lydia. "There's this guy across the street that she's been in love with forever, and one day he brought home a half-dead blonde, and he's been obsessed with her ever since."
"Is he a restoration mage?" asked Almarie.
"No, he's just a guy," said Lydia. "But, anyway, he and the blonde are joined at the hip now, and the blonde has declared herself Riften's protector. She's dedicated her life to cleaning up the city and helping its citizens, even though she has no real ties to it. She's

The Amulet and the Greatsword, Part 1
Almarie had come a long way since she first traveled from Riverwood to Whiterun. She'd joined the Companions and been initiated as a werewolf. She'd killed a dragon by shooting frost from her hands and absorbed its soul, discovering she was the Dragonborn. She's journeyed to the College at Winterhold to develop her newfound spellcasting talent and somehow become Arch-Mage. She'd finally answered the Greybeards' call and gone to High Hrothgar to learn the Way of the Voice. She'd earned her way into the Bard's College in Solitude by helping them protect a cherished tradition. She'd helped a couple of retired Imperials begin rebuilding Helgen, the city where her Skyrim journey had started. She'd become Thane of Whiterun and Hjaalmarch.
Throughout all these new alliances, there were a couple Almarie had managed to avoid. She hadn't taken a side in the Civil War, and she hadn't taken a spouse.
In regard to the former, she found herself sympathizing more and more with the Imperials, b

Lydia (Skyrim)
When Almarie met Lydia, she had never had a servant before. She'd never been one, either. Most of her work had been trading odd jobs with people who weren't much wealthier than she was. So she was grateful that Lydia didn't make her feel stupid for asking what she'd been too nervous to ask the Jarl.
"I'm a Thane? What does that mean?"
Lydia's straightforwardness and sarcasm put Almarie right at ease in her new role. They set out adventuring together immediately. Almarie had one goal and one goal only: Earn enough money for Breezehome. The Greybeards could wait forever for all she cared. This was her chance to have a place to call her own for the first time in her life.
Lydia fully supported this goal. If her Thane bought a house and settled down, that meant Lydia could settle down, too. No more wizards throwing fireballs, ice spikes, and lightning bolts at her. No more traps that she could never manage to avoid setting off. No more following a directionally-challenged mercenary around

Almarie of the Redguard
Once in Tamriel, there dwelt a young Redguard woman named Almarie. She never got the chance to ask her parents why they had burdened her with a Thalmor name. Nor could she ask them why her hair was snow white instead of the usual ebony black. Her parents were killed by a pack of skeevers when she was a young child. From then on, she made her own way in the world, moving from home to home, town to town, caravan to caravan, trading odd jobs for a place to sleep and a sweet roll or two.
When Almarie was around thirty years of age, her travels took her to the outskirts of Skyrim. She came upon a Thalmor party leading a bound prisoner to be interrogated. His crime was the worship of Talos. Almarie herself could take or leave Talos, but she had no use for the Thalmor's persecution of his followers. She tried to persuade the Thalmor to let the man go. Her persuasion skills, however, were sadly lacking. When persuasion failed, she tried intimidation. That was an even greater failure. Having on

"In the beginning was the Sky. The Sky was lonely, so he dreamed of a mate. When he awoke, the Earth was with him. The Sky covered the Earth, and the Earth bore the Titans. At least, that's what the Titans told their children.
"The Titans had power over matter, spirit, space, and time. There was nothing they couldn't do. Nothing they couldn't create. The Earth and Sky had only created plants and water. The Titans filled the earth with living creatures. You all know the tales of Hephaestus building Pandora, the first mortal woman, at Zeus' command; tales spread by Zeus in his pride to claim the Titans' work for his own. No, there were

"Mom, do I have to go to the palace with you?"
The strawberry blonde goddess was still seated on the bank of Lake Mnemosyne, challenging her mother's announcement that it was time to leave. I was sorry to see her go. Persephone was the first goddess of my generation that I'd ever met. Well, aside from my sisters. Persephone was practically the same age as us. My sisters and I were eleven months old, and she was ten. According to Mom, that was about the same as humans in their early twenties. I wouldn't know. I'd never seen a human.

The Little Muse, or, Enchantment Under the Sea
Author's Note: This is a Thalia's Musings stand-alone bonus chapter set centuries before the main story. The Muses still live at the Springs of Helicon with Calliope as their de facto leader.

"Calliope," I spoke into the darkness, "have you been listening to a thing I've said?"
"Yes, you want a mermaid costume with a trident," Calliope whispered back. "That's fine. You don't need me for that."
"No, not a costume, I want to shapeshift into a mermaid because I'm dating Triton," I corrected her in frustration. And she wouldn't have to whisper if she'd just go invisible like a normal goddess. "Remember how he was chatting me up after we performed at Poseidon and Amphitrite's hundredth anniversary banquet?"
"Not really," said Calliope, still facing the object of her attention rather than the sister conversing with her.
"Well, he was, and we've been on a few dates since then." Not that she'd b
